Making Art with Leftover Paint

This creature started out as a blob of paint on my work surface drop paper. Drop paper is pretty much what it sounds like: it catches wayward paint drips and is a handy spot to wipe off excess paint from brushes before swishing them in water. Sometimes I even mix paint on it. After a few weeks of use the paper becomes quite stiff and nearly waterproof. I never throw it away. When it’s time for a refresh, I cut them up for collage or paint on them like a canvas.

Every now and then these drop papers turn into really interesting backgrounds that suggest a new painting. That’s where this imaginary creature came from.
